A bit of History
Wisconsin Cooperative Housing Association was incorporated in 1936. Land use planner John Bordner became its first president. His vision included cul-de-sac streets and adjacent greenways surrounded by woodlands. Construction began in August 1938 and reached 38 homes by the start of World War II. Construction resumed after the war and reached 62 houses by 1949. In 1953, Forsythia Place was opened for development. Then in 1958 Crestwood was annexed by the city of Madison.. At that time, the area now known as Bordner Park and the tot lot became parks of the City of Madison. Today, Crestwood consists of 177 homes and 23 acres of cooperatively owned land.
